Broken drive shaft halts Wenger's run at Fairbury Speedway

Taking part in the mid-week event, McKay Wenger invaded Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) on Wednesday afternoon for the Summer Showcase. Drawing 32 cars, McKay topped the speed charts in time trials before placing second in his heat behind Allen Weisser. Earning the fifth-starting position for the $5,000-to-win A-Main, Wenger began closing in on race-leader Shannon Babb near the halfway point but a broken drive-shaft collected him with another competitor on lap 33. On Friday night at Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.), Wenger followed up the second fastest time overall in qualifying with a third place finish in his heat. Starting the feature in sixth, McKay ran into lingering issues with his left-rear shock from Wednesday evening that forced him pitside.

1The following night at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) for the $2,500-to-win FALS Cup, McKay scored a runner-up finish in his heat, but Mother Nature made appearance before the start of the feature that wiped out the remainder of the program.
