Wenger to pilot Boom Briggs No. 99 at Farmer City

Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway's winningest 2021 Late Model racer will pilot a Boom Briggs backup car at Tuesday's Castrol FloRacing Night in America event, McKay Wenger told DirtonDirt.com today.

The 34-year-old Wenger (pictured), a six-time Farmer City winner who also led more than half of DIRTcar Summer Nationals and MARS Racing Series specials at the quarter-mile oval before posting runner-up finishes, said he was "shocked" to get connected with Bear Lake, Pa.'s Briggs through outreach by Rocket Chassis co-founder Mark Richards, who fields the Rocket house car for Illinois racer Brandon Sheppard.

"I'm looking forward to it and and was excited to hear Mark had my back on that deal, Mark and Brandon, and grateful that Boom, for somebody he doesn't really know, is going to trust me to go out there and race his car," Wenger said. "I really appreciate that, too."

The Rocket-piloting Briggs, a regular on the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series, is also ninth in points on the first-year Castrol circuit.

Wenger, Farmer City's 2015 champion and third in '21 standings, believed his season was over following engine problems in his self-owned No. 42 Rocket that struck Monday at his hometown Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway while he was running third in the Castrol event won by Sheppard.

"I thought we were completely done for the year, and then Farmer City has been my best track all season, and I thought I was going to have to sit out one of the biggest shows down there," Wenger said. "I've gotta thank Mark Richards for making that phone call for me ... that's a phone call no one's ever made for me before, so I really appreciate that."
