10th-to-2nd run at Farmer City highlights Memorial Day weekend
McKay Wenger got an early start to his Memorial Day weekend with a visit to Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.) on Friday to pilot his Creative Kitchens & Baths No. 42 Late Model.
Drawing 32 entries for the seventh stop of the MARS Late Model Championship, Wenger topped his 16-car group in time trials but was collected in a tangle in his heat that dropped him to third. Starting the $5,000-to-win A-Main in 10th, McKay charged through the field eight spots in the 40-lapper to register a second-place finish. He chased Hall of Famer Billy Moyer to the checkers with Bob Gardner, Tommy Sheppard, and Mike Harrison completing the top-five finishers.
With the MARS Late Model Championship on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.), McKay battled driveline issues throughout the night that prevented him from qualifying for the feature. Following a fifth-place finish in his heat, Wenger missed a transfer spot by one car in his B-Main with a third-place outing.
McKay will return to action next Thursday, June 1st, as the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series invades Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.) for the Farmer City Showdown.
