McKay Wenger gets 100th career win at Spoon River Speedway
With Friday’s MARS Late Model Championship Series opener at Farmer City (IL) Raceway falling to inclement weather, McKay Wenger’s Labor Day weekend kicked off with Saturday’s Triple Down Shootout at Fairbury (IL) Speedway aboard his Curless Motorsports No. 99 entry.
Against 28 Super Late Models, Wenger claimed the overall fast time honors in qualifying with a blazing 13.031-second lap before picking up a heat race win. With a $5,000 payday up for grabs in Saturday’s main event, McKay climbed two spots in the 40-lap affair to register a third-place finish. He joined race-winner Shannon Babb and Blaze Burwell on the podium.
Attending the Labor Day weekend finale at Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Ill.) on Sunday, McKay advanced into the feature with a runner-up heat showing. Receiving the pole via the redraw, Wenger outran Ryan Unzicker and Jason Feger to secure his 100th career win.
The Fairbury, Ill., native claimed a $5,000 payday for his 11th victory of the 2024 campaign.
